There are tons of aspiring rappers and singer who get in touch with me who expect to be able to do everything and really build their career without spending a lot of time or money to do it. The music business is not a get-rich-quick scheme. And it’s definitely not a get-rich-free type of business. Even those “overnight successes” you see on TV have been years and years in the making.

If you want to make and sell professional music you have to be willing to invest in yourself. And you should really start your own record label. You need to spend the time, effort and money required to make this dream a reality. It takes time to create high-quality songs.

Now, there are definitely ways you can start an independent record label. You don’t need to spend millions of dollars to do this now, but you do need to spend some money. Recording, production, distribution, promotion and everything else involved in the business costs money. And if you want to do things right and not sound like an amateur, you’ll have to invest in this stuff. Because believe me, no one (especially major record labels) won’t want to invest in you if you’re not even willing to invest in yourself.

So from this point forward do one thing – learn how to start your own record label. Take any and all negative energy out of your mind. You are no longer able to say “no,” or “I can’t afford this,” or “I don’t have time for this.” From now on everything is a “yes,” “I will find time for this,” or “I will find a way to get things done.” Time management is important in this business, especially if you’re just starting out and still have a day-job. You can’t spend time watching TV, playing games and going out for a drink or just chilling and smoking with your friends.

When you’re starting a record label you can’t spend money on new clothes all the time or going out to eat at fancy restaurants all the time. You need to take that time and money you’re wasting on not building your own independent record label/a>, and begin putting it towards your career. With determination, dedication, focus and a real drive to be successful in music you can truly make your mark.
